Galway Bay fm newsroom - A group of 20 protestors gathered outside County Hall this lunchtime in the latest in a series of demonstrations against proposals for mineral mining in Connemara.
Canadian mining company MOAG is seeking a licence for prospecting in town lands such as Ballinahinch, Callow, Murvey and Dolan.
Another firm, BTU Metals Corp is also seeking a prospecting licence from the government.
The campaign group argues the plans do not show adequate regard for people's health, homes, livelihoods and environment.
It's calling for a ban on base metal mining in the area which would exclude marble and stone quarrying, and Green party councillor Alaistair McKinstry is submitting this motion to the county council.
