Slight rise in Galway house prices in first half of 2019

Galway Bay fm newsroom - There was a slight increase in house prices across Galway during the first half of this year - despite a national drop of 2.5%.

That's according to figures from the latest Residental Property Price Barometer compiled from actual sales between January and June.

The figures are based on actual sales of the three most popular property types - 2-bed apartments and 3 and 4 bed semi-detached homes.

In Galway City, the largest rise was in 2-bed apartments, which rose by 5.5% to stand at an average sale price of €190 thousand.

However, there was a drop in the sale price of a 3-bed semi between January and June - which fell by almost 2% to €262 thousand.

There was an increased drop of 2.5% in the cost of a 4-bed semi in Galway City - which was €292 thousand on average during the first six months of this year.

In the county, the average price of a 2-bed apartment was unchanged at €130 thousand - as was the cost of a 3-bed semi, at €200 thousand.

However, there was a rise of just over 2% in the asking price of a 4-bed semi between January and June - with the average cost now standing at €250 thousand.

According to the Sunday Independent, Dublin 4 is the most expensive area nationwide, with an average home costing almost €800 thousand.

While the cheapest can be found in Co. Longford - where the average home across the three most popular property types costs just €108 thousand.
