Galway Bay fm newsroom - Higher Education Minister Simon Harris has confirmed ATU Galway is among the five technological universities set to develop new accommodation for students.
Minister Harris says the aim is to develop a range of options including State supported purpose-built student accommodation.
This should result in thousands more beds becoming available for students around the country.
Minister Harris says he has met all the technological universities and there is a clear aim to start building and acquiring accommodation.
The Higher Education Authority will now join with the stakeholders to assess the demand for student accommodation in the key regions, including Galway.
