The sod has been turned on a new social housing development in Clifden which will provide 30 homes in 18 months time
Leas-Cathaoirleach of the county council Councillor Ollie Turner officiated at the ceremony on the Westport Road
Local Fine Gael councillor Eileen Mannion says private housing is also needed in all areas of the county
Also today in Clifden, on the nearby Hospital Road, an open viewing took place of a completed social housing development
The old St. Joseph's School has been converted into 8 apartments
Council Director of Housing Michael Owens says they will all be fully occupied by next week
Councillor Mannion says the building was originally an orphanage and the orphans will be remembered at a future event
