The Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine will hold its annual conference at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the city today and tomorrow.
The academy is the professional body for medical scientists in Ireland who diagnose diseases and monitor treatments.
Between 70 and 80 percent of all clinical decisions are made using a laboratory test.
The theme of this year's conference is 'What a difference a test makes' and today's plenary session will be moderated by Chair of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health, Deputy Michael Harty.
Tomorrow (sat) delegates will debate the next public pay talks, terms and conditions of employment, the provision of out-of-hours services and the recruitment and retention of medical scientists.
