Galway Bay fm newsroom - A 6-year old brain-damaged Craughwell girl has been awarded an interim settlement of 2.6 million euro in the High Court.
The case of negligence against the HSE was taken by Niamh and Shane Farrell from Killeeneen on behalf of their daughter Sadhbh.
Sadhbh Farrell was born at UHG on January 23rd 2011 at 36 weeks and was in good condition.
She appeared jaundiced following her birth but there was a failure to carry out a basic test of bilirubin levels which would have led to treatment.
As a result Sadhbh was sent home from hospital and subsequently ended up at Temple Street Hospital in Dublin.
According to the Irish Times online, she was later diagnosed with severe cerebral palsy and now needs 24-hour care.
Justice Kevin Cross in the High Court was told that liability was admitted and the HSE had apologised to Sadhbh Farrell's family.
The judge approved a settlement of 2.6 million euro for Sadhbh and said he hopes it helps towards her needs over the next 5 years.
The case will return to court in 2022.
