Galway Bay fm newsroom - A set of skulls stolen from Inishbofin will arrive back on the island this weekend after 130 years.
Some of the skulls of locals from the Connemara island date back to the 19th century.
Their return brings to an end a decade-long campaign from islanders.
The set of 13 skulls were stolen from the grounds of St Colman's Monastery, and were brought to Trinity College Dublin over 130 years ago.
Islanders have been campaigning for their return for ten years, with Trinity authorities agreeing to return them in February of this year.
The remains will be transported from Dublin to Galway this evening (12/7) and will be brought back to the island on Saturday afternoon.
Following a 1PM mass on Sunday, they will be buried in a traditional island coffin, created by Architect Christopher Day.
