Salthill and Galway city traders are breathing a huge sigh of relief that major flooding has been averted in the city so far as weather warnings for Storm Barra continue.
Galway has escaped the brunt of the storm so far as more than 49,000 homes, farms and businesses across the country are without power.
Cork and Kerry are bearing the brunt of the storm force winds which could reach in excess of 130km per hour.
A red wind alert will come into effect in Clare from 4 o'clock this afternoon, while orange warnings are in place in 11 other coastal counties including Galway.
Ronan Galvin of the Creamery Café on Salthill promenade says there's a sense of relief that so far, the storm hasn't caused any major damage.
