Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Salthill secondary school has been named among the top schools in the country when it comes to the number of students who progress to third level education.
According to the annual Irish Times Feeder Schools list, Salerno Secondary School has the second highest rate nationwide, behind Christian Brothers College in Dun Laoghaire.
In 17th position is Coláiste Iognáid in Galway City, which is also ranked 5th in a list of the top non-fee paying schools across the country.
Also included in the top 50 schools nationwide is Dominican College in Taylors Hill.
This year's survey shows Galway secondary schools have an overall progression rate of 81 percent.
It found that almost 100 percent of students attending private schools nationwide progressed to third level.
Dr. Katriona O'Sullivan, lecturer in psychology at Maynooth University, says this shouldn't be celebrated.
