Galway Bay fm newsroom - Salthill and Lough Rea have received top marks in the latest survey of coastal areas and waterways around the country.
The survey by business group, Irish Business Against Litter - IBAL - has found Lough Rea joining Salthill among the cleanest areas in the country.
However the River Corrib in the city is again 'moderately littered'.
The survey of Salthill which included the Prom to Blackrock diving tower, found that it was excellent with regard to litter apart from a few cigarette butts in the car parking area.
The report for Lough Rea states that it is an excellent site in terms of litter and overall presentation and the water is spotless.
An Taisce carried out the survey for IBAL and found that there were occasional water-based litter items along the River Corrib and cigarette butts, cans and coffee cups were also a feature.
