Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's visit to Galway has been delayed by approximately an hour.
It's understood the delay is due to fog which prevented their departure on schedule from Dublin airport this morning.
Galway is the last leg of the The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first trip to Ireland; and today's historic event is due to start with a visit to Tribeton on Merchants Road for a briefing on Galway's designation of European Capital of Culture for 2020.
However the engagment has been somewhat delayed - it was due to get underway at around 10 this morning, but is now unlikely to take place until closer to midday.
At Tribeton, William and Kate will be presented with a showcase of the projects and organisations involved with the creative process - and meet with some volunteers from the Galway 2020 team.
From Tribeton, the royal couple will then embark on a brief walkabout to take in the sights and charm of the city centre.
They'll meet with some of the crowds who have gathered to witness their historic visit; they'll also make their way to Tigh Chóili on Mainguard Street where they'll meet with local volunteers and listen to a traditional music performance.
Then it's off west, with the royal couple set to visit Salthill Knocknacarra GAA club.
They'll be treated to sporting displays from local hurling, camogie and football teams who have been practicising relentlessly over the past week to ensure the royal couple is suitably impressed.
Their visit to Galway will last only a few hours but is sure to leave lasting impressions; many see their wider trip to Ireland as a crucial opportunity to building a lasting friendship with the Irish people in the aftermath of Brexit.
