Galway Bay fm newsroom - Residents of Blackrock in Salthill are raising concerns over the planned redevelopment of the area's iconic diving tower.
Part 8 plans for the development have been drawn up - and regular swimmers say the proposed new layout will have a negative impact on the amenity.
The City Council is proposing a set of double handrails from the entrance to the diving tower area, directly up to the tower itself.
This would divide the existing changing area on the flat rocks in front of the tower in two.
Well-known city businessman Ray O'Connor says the amenity has much greater potential than what's being planned by the council.
He's also disputing the local authority's claims that the plans were widely publicised.
