Residents appeal to An Bord Pleanala over apartment plans at Dublin Road in Renmore

An appeal has been lodged with An Bord Pleanala over plans to demolish homes at Dublin Road in Renmore and replace them with apartments.

The plans would see three homes opposite Flannery's Hotel demolished and replaced with a block of 24 units.

The transformational plans would see a bungalow and two semi-detached two-storey homes replaced with a four story apartment block.

Renaissance Property Ltd were given the go-ahead by city planners last month, despite strong objections from local residents.

There were a number of core arguments - the new building being "completely at odds" with the character of the area, overlooking of other properties, and potential traffic problems.

One claimed the large number of small single and two-bed units indicated it would be for short-term lets - and this would "utterly devastate the fabric" of the area.

Some added they welcomed the development of the vacant sites in principle, but the scale in this case is just too excessive.

A case has now been taken with An Bord Pleanala, halting the plans until a decision is made early next year.
