The emergency motion requiring the Ethics Registrar to investigate the proposed distribution of the 180 thousand euro was led by Fine Gael councillor Andrew Reddington and supported by Independent councillor Karey McHugh and Fine Gael councillor Pete Roche.

The enquiry concerns a motion at a meeting in March, regarding a plan for an inhouse meeting with local area engineers regarding the central government funds, and a motion passed at a meeting in April regarding the division of the money.

The matter has been referred by the Ethics Registrar to the Cathaoirleach of the County of Galway and Chief Executive for review - and for a report to be prepared on their joint consideration of the matters raised.

The process is currently ongoing.

While no specific date has been given, it is anticipated that the report will be completed and submitted to the Ethics Registrar shortly
