Rent the Runway to create 150 jobs in city

Galway Bay fm newsroom - US firm Rent the Runway is to create 150 new jobs in the city, with the opening of its first international technology office.

The company is credited with creating one of the world's first living, sustainable closets by enabling women to rent their clothing instead of buying it.

The team of 150 engineers and tech developers will be recruited over the next three years and will be based in at the Claddagh area.

The company has five locations in the US, 11 million members, and 1,800 employees, 93% of whom are female, multiracial or minority.

The company's technology team is 45% female, and 80% of leaders at the company are women.

Rent the Runway, headquartered in New York City, was founded in 2009 by Jennifer Hyman and Jennifer Fleiss with the aim of providing a rotating wardrobe that is also a smart, sustainable choice.

Rent the Runway's Galway office will be temporarily located at the Portershed and will relocate to a more permanent home late Summer at the newly-renovated Piscatorial School building overlooking the Claddagh.

The team in Galway will be undertaking in-house software development as well as supporting US operations by working on existing technological activity.
