Unpaid rent arrears for city and county council stands at €3.5 million

Galway Bay FM newsroom - Galway county and city council are owed a combined total of 3.5 million euro in unpaid rent.

In these cases, payment plans are put in place for tenants.

The county council have rent arrears of 1.2 million euro while the city council are owed 2.3 million.

Both councils have confirmed that they liaise with tenants when payment is owed, and payment plans are subsequently put in place.

If there is no engagement from a tenant and a failure to agree a payment plan, then legal action may taken.

Nationwide, local authorities are owed over 100 million euro in unpaid rent.
