Galway Bay fm newsroom - There are renewed calls for the Garda Commissioner to attend a meeting of the county's joint policing committee, amid ongoing concerns over resources in rural areas.
Connemara area councillor Dáithí Ó Cualáin proposed Drew Harris meet members for a discussion, which would include the decline in Garda resources in areas such as Carraroe.
He referred to two recent incidents where victims had to wait an hour for Gardaí to travel from Salthill, following 999 calls.
Garda Inspector Brian Regan told the meeting there is a Garda presence in Carraroe 24/7 and if a car is tied up elsewhere, a unit will be sent from Salthill.
He said the matter is being discussed on a regular basis and has gained momentum, with hopes for a possible solution to be found before summer break.
