Galway Bay fm newsroom - A new regional enterprise plan for the West will leverage the strengths of the region.
That's according to Gaeltacht Minister and Galway West TD Sean Kyne who was one of the speakers at the plan's launch at the PorterShed in the city this morning.
The plan aims to achieve growth of between 10 and 15% and an unemployment rate of within one per cent of the State average.
It's been drawn up by officials from the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation with input from a range of organisations including the IDA, Enterprise Ireland and local authorities.
Strategic objectives include building capacity in the life sciences sector, ensuring sustainable growth in tourism, developing the West’s creative sector and realising the potential of the AgTech sector.
Over €7.1 million has been allocated to the West under the Regional Enterprise Development Fund.
The projects being supported include the PorterShed and Galway City Innovation District, the Páirc na Mara Marine Innovation Development Centre in Cill Chiaráin and the BIA Innovator Campus in Athenry.
Speaking at the official launch in the PorterShed, Business Minister Heather Humphreys said collaboration is at the heart of the plan to tackle the new challenges facing the economy - for more on this tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour...
