Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway city council achieved a 3 per cent increase in its rate collection last year.
The Auditors report shows that 81 per cent of the rates due were collected with a total of almost 35 million euro collected.
The percentage of the commercial rates collected in Galway city is below the national average which stands at 86 per cent.
Council CEO, Brendan McGrath said that the local authority is heading towards a further improvement in rate collection this year.
The Auditors report also shows that 2.5 million euro of development levies which is due to the council remained uncollected at the end of the year.
The council CEO said that debts relating to development levies are monitored and managed on an ongoing basis.
