Galway Bay fm newsroom - A series of public meetings on language plans for Galway's gaeltacht regions will be held in the coming weeks.
Irish Language Officers are to be employed in the gaeltacht to assist with the implementation of language plans.
Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs, Seán Kyne T.D., has ringfenced a language planning allocation of €850,000 for gaeltacht regions across Ireland.
€735,000 will be allocated to Údarás na Gaeltachta and €115,000 to Foras na Gaeilge to enable them to advance the language planning process.
The funds being provided to Údarás na Gaeltachta will ensure that the language planning process will begin before the end of the year in Bearna and Knocknacarragh; Galway City East; and an tEachréidh.
It's after the latest Census figures revealed a decline in the use of the Irish language in Galway's Gaeltacht regions.
Statistics show that the daily use of Irish in the Gaeltacht areas outside of the city has dropped by almost 6%.
A series of public meetings will be held as part of the major project.
The first will take place on the 24th of April at 8pm at the Menlo Park Hotel in the city.
This'll be followed at 8pm on the 25th with a meeting in the Claregalway Hotel, while a third meeting will be held at the Clybaun Hotel, on Thursday, 27 April at 8pm.
