The plans, led by Sustainable Bio-Energy Limited, would see the plant located in the townlands of Ballynamantan, Kinincha and Glenbrack.

While an earlier plan was withdrawn in January 2019, a second application to develop the plant on a 10 hectare site around 1KM from Gort was submitted in November.

However county planners refused permission for the project in recent weeks, citing a number of factors.

This decision has now been appealed to An Bord Pleanála with a decision due in June.

A public information meeting to discuss the situation will take place at Sullivan's in Gort this evening at 8.

Els Van Hout of Gort Bio Gas Concern Group says people in Gort have no issue with the idea of biogas.

However, she says the current location is just not suitable for a biogas plant - to hear more, tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour...
