Galway Bay fm newsroom - A meeting will take place in Kinvara later today to provide information on setting up a Rural Social Scheme in south Galway.
The scheme provides income support to farmers and fishermen who are currently in receipt of long-term social welfare payments like Farm Assist and Jobseekers Allowance.
Galway Rural Development will give a presentation at the public meeting on eligibility for the scheme.
It'll take place at the Pier Head in Kinvara at 9 tonight.
Local councillor Joe Byrne says it's hoped that a scheme with 20 participants and a supervisor can be set up in south Galway.
