Galway Bay fm newsroom - The latest in a series of public meetings to discuss the future of the Westwood Hotel in Newcastle will take place next week (12/7).
Over 100 local residents attended a meeting in April to discuss controversial plans to demolish the hotel to make way for high-end student accommodation.
The Westwood Hotel has been purchased by the Ziggurat Student Investment Fund - which ultimately plans to replace the hotel with high-end student accomodation.
Business will continue as normal until January - after which point the new owners hope to demolish the current building and construct accommodation to cater for up to 400 students.
Local residents are extremely unhappy with the proposed development - and next week's meeting is being described as the latest step in a campaign to save the existing hotel.
The new owners have vowed that they will continue to meet with residents associations as the project progresses to the next phase.
They've also stated they're looking forward to working with NUI Galway, the City Council and local residents to deliver an attractive scheme for the property.
The public meeting will take place at the Bushypark School Hall on Wednesday evening at 8.
