Galway Bay fm newsroom - A public consultation process has been launched on the future use of the airstrips at Cleggan and on Inishbofin.
The airstrips were developed and completed in 2009 with goverment funding with the original objective of scheduled air services to Inishbofin.
Gaeltacht Minister and Galway West TD Sean Kyne says his department hopes to gather public views on possible future uses of the airstrips.
Aside from the possibility of scheduled air services, other uses which have been considered include the use of the Cleggan site as a base for the Coast Guard.
The Office of Public Works conducted a feasibility study on this suggestion last year.
The Department of Arts, Heritage, and Gaeltacht Affairs in Furbo is now accepting public submissions and observations until Friday the 19th of May.
Minister Kyne says he's hopeful some feasible options will be suggested.
