Galway Bay fm newsroom - A number of properties are still at risk as Coillte continues to battle a major forest fire near Oughterard
The air corps will attend the scene of the major blaze at the country's biggest forest at the Cloosh Valley this morning.
Fire fighters have brought two of three major fires in forest under control overnight - but one blaze, with a front spanning several kilometers, is still posing a threat.
During the night, fire breaks were put in place at Galway Wind Park at Doon East, where 2 turbines were at risk of destruction.
Over a quarter of the 4000 hectare plantation has been lost, and there are concerns for a number of properties in the Cloosh Valley area as one section of the fire continues to rage.
The Air Corps has been drafted in to help with the operation, and is due to arrive at the scene at around 10.30 this morning.
Mark Carlin of Coillte says the public need to be aware of the risk posed by lighting fires.
