Galway Bay fm newsroom - Progress is being made on a major flood relief project for South Galway.
Up to 200 people gathered at a public meeting last evening in Gort, which was organised by the South Galway Flood Relief Committee.
It was attended by Minister Sean Canney, Deputies Anne Rabbitte and Ciaran Cannon, Councillors Joe Byrne, Michael Fahy and Gerry Finnerty, and Richard Dooley from the OPW.
Members of the Geological Survey of Ireland team who are working on South Galway hydrology modelling were also in attendance.
The project will focus on the region between Slieve Aughty and the sea at Kinvara and it's hoped construction, which will take around 2 years, will begin in 2020.
OPW Minister Sean Canney says the plans are progressing well.
