Professor Emeritas from University of Galway, Anne Scott, has been appointed chair of the evaluation into how Ireland dealt with COVID-19.
Professor Scott will oversee the process which will look at the Government-response to the pandemic and how to make improvements.
The aim is for the report to be completed within 18 months, and it will focus on the health service's response covering hospitals, the community and nursing homes.
The evaluation will also consider the wider economic and social response, including the impact of COVID-19 on education and businesses.
It will not cover specific epidemiology of the COVID-19 virus and its variants, vaccine efficacy or clinical decisions made by individual clinicians
Over her career, Professor Anne Scott has held a variety of leadership roles including Head of School and Executive Dean at University of Galway, and Deputy President at DCU.
She has worked as a clinician and academic in Ireland, Scotland, Kenya and England.
Professor Scott has extensive experience and knowledge of the Irish healthcare system.
