President Michael D Higgins has paid tribute to Galway historian and writer Peadar O'Dowd, who died on January 3rd after a short illness.
A native of Bohermore, Peadar has written numerous books, was a lecturer in GMIT and a columnist for over 30 years.
President Higgins described Peadar as a 'great champion of local history, and said his work is 'a legacy that will live on for generations to come.'
Michael D Higgins extended his condolences to his wife Mary, brothers Willie and Martin, and to all his family, friends and colleagues.
