Portiuncula Hospital to hold special mass to celebrate 80 years of service

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe is to hold a special mass toomorrow, Thursday April 20) to celebrate 80 years of service.

The Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood opened a nursing home at “Mount Pleasant” in 1943 – and a hospital was later opened in 1945.

The hospital is named after the small church of Portiuncula in Italy, the place where Franciscanism began.

The mass will take place at Gullanes Hotel at 3 tomorrow afternoon
