It's believed the dogs were all walked in the same area - and owners are now being asked to avoid it completely until further notice.

Barna Vets say there appears to be some form of toxin or poison affecting dogs in the Corcullen/Drom area.

It's after 4 dogs died in separate households - but the common denominator is that all had been walked in the same area over the weekend.

That area is the stretch between the cross and the football pitches - which dog owners are now being warned to avoid entirely until further notice.

Symptoms of poisoning include increased temperature and panting, which can be followed by sudden death.

Dog owners have been asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in the area to Gardai.

Anyone who has walked their dog in the area over the weekend - and may have concerns - is being advised to immediately contact their vet.
