Plans for hyperbaric oxygen centre in the city

Galway Bay fm newsroom - There are plans to change an office in the city centre into a hyperbaric oxygen centre.

Brian Lynch has applied for planning permission for the development.

A decision is expected from city planners later this month.

Hyperbaric oxygen chambers can be used to treat many conditions such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and stroke.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy elevates oxygen delivery to damaged tissue.

As patients breathe 100 percent oxygen at elevated pressure, this increased pressure causes an increase in the oxygenation of the blood which promotes tissue repair and fracture healing, while reducing pain and swelling.

There are plans to change the ground floor of Augustine House at Merchants Road into a hyperbaric oxygen centre.

It'll consist of a barochamber as well as public and staff facilities.
