Galway Bay fm newsroom - There are plans to build a new mixed-use development at Newtownsmith in the city.
Floris Wagemakers has applied to the city council for planning permission to demolish The Abbeygate guesthouse at 3 Newstownsmith and replace it with a new guesthouse and restaurant.
The plans involve demolishing the existing guesthouse to make way for a new 3-storey mixed-use building.
It would have a restaurant at ground floor level with a new guesthouse at first and second floor levels, merging with 11 Mary Street.
The existing restaurant at the ground floor of 11 Mary Street - Falafel Bar - would be amalgamated into the new restaurant.
There would also be an outdoor seating area and canopy.
A decision is expected from the city council next month.
