Galway Bay fm newsroom - Plans for local authority housing in Oughterard have been refused planning permission by the higher planning authority.
The county council had hoped to build 13 homes with car parking and green space at Claremount.
However, An Bord Pleanála has refused permission for the development.
The site would have been north of Sruchán An Chláir housing estate.
The board says it's not satisfied that the county council has demonstrated that the housing in Oughterard would adversely affect the nearby protected sites, primarily the Lough Corrib Special Protection area.
