Plans to extend rent cap to city and Oranmore in the coming weeks

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The new 4% cap on rent increases could be extended to Oranmore in the coming weeks.

Minister Simon Coveney says a series of assessments are being carried out to allow for the introduction of the limit on increases in Waterford, Limerick, Galway and Cork - and 20 other towns across Ireland.

Areas in Galway which are likely to reach rent-cap criteria in the coming weeks are Oranmore, Salthill, Rahoon, Ballybane and Monivea.

It had been expected that the city would be included in the scheme - but the addition of Oranmore could be of significant benefit to the thousands of commuters who choose to live in the village.
