Galway Bay fm newsroom - There are plans for a major solar farm near Athenry.
Soleirtricity Ltd has applied for planning permission for the 20 megawatt development at Tobberroe, Caraunduff, Caherbriskaun and Rathmorrissy.
The development would include photovoltaic panels on mounted frames, single storey substations and a transformer and 40 single storey one megawatt battery storage containers.
It would also feature internal tracks, the closure of existing access and provision of new operational access on to the R348, fencing, CCTV and lighting.

A decision is due from the county council next month. (18th December)
