Plan approved for redevelopment of Shantalla protected structure into apartments

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Plans to redevelop a protected structure into an apartment block in Shantalla have been given the go-ahead, with 18 conditions attached.

The project led by Fort Eyre Developments Ltd will see substantial changes at No.58 Shantalla Road.

The development will involve the demolition of the roof and rear return of the existing two-storey commercial building, as well as the part demolition and replacement of the ground floor façade fronting onto Shantalla Road.

It will see the construction of a new ground floor and first floor with roof, to accommodate four apartments.

The development is to be integrated into the adjoining site of No. 57 Shantalla and Fort Eyre and will include all associated site works and services.

City planners have attached 18 conditions.

One states that an archaeologist is to carry out pre-development testing at the site.
