Galway Bay fm newsroom - Plans have been approved for a new two storey laboratory building at UHG, and small single-storey extension to the mortuary at the hospital grounds.
The project led by the HSE will also see the partial demolition and alteration of the existing mortuary facility and existing pathology laboratory building.
The area to be demolished is a former viewing area which is no longer in use for that purpose.
Works will also include the reconfiguration of the internal hospital road and services as well as a new entrance to the mortuary.
The new laboratory building will accommodate the blood and tissue establishment unit.
The development will also provide accommodation on one of the floors for the configuration of an integrated medical laboratory service.
City planners have attached six conditions.
These include a stipulation that the landscaping of the site is implemented within three months of the project completion or within the first planting season.
It's also stated that all demolition and construction activity is to be carried out between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and between 9am and 1pm on Saturdays.
