Galway Bay fm newsroom - Plans for a major housing development in Barna have been turned down.
Burkeway Homes Limited had applied directly to An Bord Pleanála for planning permission for 113 houses at Truskey East.
The application went straight to the higher planning authority, rather than the county council, because of new legislation which directs applications of more than 100 homes to An Bord Pleanála.
In refusing permission for the major housing development in Barna, An Bord Pleanála states that 113 houses is not enough in terms of density.
This is because of the site's location on serviceable lands within the Galway Metropolitan area and its proximity to social and community services.
An Bord Pleanála also says that the proposed development doesn't have an adequate mix of homes, being predominantly semi-detached and detached.
