Petition calls for Minister to re-establish bus services in Knocknacarra

Galway Bay fm newsroom - An online petition has been launched which is calling on the Transport Minister Eamon Ryan to reinstate bus services in the Knocknacarra area.

The petition is calling for public transport to be re-established along existing routes from Cappagh Road to Eyre Square - via Salthilll, Westside and the Galway Retail Park - and from Barna to Eyre Square via Lombard Street.

It comes as City Direct bus services along these routes have been suspended since March 23rd due to the Covid pandemic.

Campaigners argue this has left up to 30,000 residents without access to public transport.

The petition has been created, on myuplift.ie, by Knocknacarra resident Conall Maguire and has received over 350 signatures in the past 24 hours.

The most recent update on the City Direct website, from July 1st, states that the company does not have additional information on a restart date for its services.

Petition organiser Conall Maguire says it's critical that the sitiuation is fixed before schools and colleges reopen...
