Galway Bay fm newsroom - Patients are being urged to consider travelling to Roscommon for emergency treatment as Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe struggles to deal with overcrowding.
There are 26 patients waiting on trolleys or on over-capacity wards at Portiuncula Hospital today.
The full capacity protocol has been implemented and staff are trying to identify patients who are suitable for discharge in a bid to free up beds.
Patients are being urged, if possible, to attend the Roscommon Injury Unit at Roscommon General - where patients are currently being treated and discharged within an hour.
