Part of M6 motorway near Loughrea closed following collision

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A stretch of the M6 motorway westbound between junctions 16 and 17 is closed due to a collision in the past hour.

It's understood no-one was hurt in the single vehicle collision but gardaí have closed a stretch of the motorway temporarily to clear the scene.

A status yellow rainfall warning is in place for Galway and the rest of Connacht until 6 this evening.

Heavy or prolonged showers are expected with the risk of thundery downpours.

Gardaí are advising people that Flood Street in the city is currently under submerged.
