Galway Bay fm newsroom - An Bord Pleanála is to consider an appeal against plans for a pastoral centre at Bushypark in the city.
St James Parish Council was granted approval for the project by the local authority in March, with 10 conditions attached.
However Bushy Park Parishioners group has highlighted its opposition to the higher planning board.
Bushy Park Parishioners Group has raised concerns that the project could have an adverse impact on the setting of the church and graveyard.
Other concerns relate to the loss of mature trees, the proximity of the graves and the relocation of the grotto.
The planned corridor for the Galway city N6 ring road is also referenced which would run adjacent to the site of the proposed centre.
Concerns are raised that such a project would have major implications for the N59.
The group stresses that it has no objections to renovations, repairs or changes to the church.
An Bord Pleanála is due to make a decision on the appeal in August.
