Parents accept compromise over class sizes at Menlo National School

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Parents of children attending Menlo National School have broadly accepted a compromise offered by management over class sizes.

It's after a protest involving a large number of parents and children took place at Scoil Bhríde yesterday morning to highlight concerns for the upcoming year.

It's understood the planned grouping of fifth and sixth class pupils would have led to a class size of over 40 students.

In response, school management offered a compromise on the teaching of core subjects such as English, Irish and Maths.

The proposal would use the school's library and a resource teacher to ensure classes are taught separately between 9.30 and lunchtime.
