Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over 5,000 learners are waiting to take their driving test in Galway.
According to figures obtained by the Labour party, over 3,000 applicants, who have completed their driver training in Galway city and county are awaiting a test date.
A further 1,600 learners are designated as ineligible because they have not completed their mandatory driving lessons.
The Westside test centre in the city has the longest waiting list at almost 1,800 applicants, followed by over 1,100 in Carnmore, 989 in Loughrea, 958 in Tuam and 277 in Clifden.
In total just under 100,000 learners are on the waiting list nationwide.
Labour City Councillor Niall McNelis argues the Government must work with the RSA to alleviate the backlog.
