Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over 300 students and members of staff at University of Galway are petitioning the University President over pay conditions for PhD workers.
The Postgraduate Workers Alliance is calling for the immediate reversal of the Graduate Teaching Policy, which they claim contains a substantial payment reduction for PhD workers.
The University has previously defended the new rates of pay for postgraduate research students, claiming the change has been 'broadly welcomed'.
The new policy ends the past practice of research students having to contribute up to 120 hours teaching support, without pay.
