Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over 150 people attended a public meeting in Maam last night to discuss a proposal for a prospecting licence to a mining company.
The meeting was organised by Niall Joyce of Ionad Pobail na Mháma and was attended by Green Party councillors from the city and county.
Canadian company, BTU Metals Corp is seeking a prospecting licence from the government and public submissions are due by August 25th.
Fine Gael Councillor Eileen Mannion and Minister of State, Seán Kyne also attended last night's public meeting, which sought to create a committee to plan opposition to the licence proposal.
The meeting called on Minister Kyne to approach his government colleagues to deny the prospecting licence and block mining in Connemara.
