Galway Bay fm newsroom - A new out-of-hours mental health support café is set to be launched in the city.
Galway Community Café is a collaboration between the HSE, Galway Local Forum and the Office of Mental Health Engagement and Recovery.
It'll offer a safe place for individuals to talk with trained staff who have personal experience of mental health challenges.
Those using the cafe will have the opportunity to discreetly indicate if they'd like to speak with someone, ask a question, get counselling or just sit quietly in a relaxed atmosphere.
Galway Community Café will be located at Mr. Waffle opposite UHG from 6.30pm until 11.30pm, Thursday to Sunday.
The project team are hopeful the pilot project will lead the way for the development of peer led out-of-hours services nationwide.
Area Lead for Mental Health Engagement and Recovery Maria McGoldrick says the initiative has been designed to provide key supports which were previously missing.
