From the Galway Bay FM Newsroom: An Oranmore Nursing Home has been given until the end of this month to improve standards at the facility after a HIQA report highlighted a number of areas of concern.
The Health Information and Quality Authority inspected 26 care facilities across the country with Inspectors finding non-compliance with the regulations and standards at 11 facilities including Brampton Care Home in Oranmore village.
The unannounced inspection took place at Brampton Care Home on May 27th when 65 residents were receiving care at the nursing home.
10 of the residents spoke to the inspector and stated that the standard of the service at the home had deteriorated in the previous 5 months with staff shortages, the quality of food, noise levels from ongoing building works at the home and communication from management being a cause for concern.
Brampton Care Home was found to be in breach of 8 of the 11 regulations considered on the day of the inspection.
Areas of concern for HIQA included staff having access to appropriate training and staff supervision, especially at weekends. Also inspectors noted that residents did not feel they were being listened to and No independent advocate was made available to facilitate residents meetings.
Under quality and safety, the report states that poor supervision and oversight of care was reflected in the nursing documentation reviewed and the observations of the inspector on the day of the inspection.
Governance and management, the notification of incidents, and Risk management were also flagged as areas for improvement.
Brampton Care Home was found to be fully compliant in the areas of health care and infection control and substantially compliant in the area of staffing and was given until the end of this month to correct the concerns highlighted.
