Galway Bay fm newsroom - A county councillor has hit out at continued delays in the reopening of Dunkellin bridge.
The structure collapsed last year while it was undergoing works.
This has resulted in prolonged road closures with locals forced to take alternative routes to school, mass and farmland.
Local Fine Gael councillor Joe Byrne says the OPW has yet to give approval for the replacement of the bridge and remedial works to existing retained arches.
In January, officials had set a target date of this month for the reopening, however it's understood this is now likely to be pushed back by a further 12 weeks.
Councillor Byrne says every effort must be made to ensure the structure reopens in time for the new school term in September.
