Galway Bay fm newsroom - Water levels on the River Corrib are being closely monitored by the OPW as part of a wider flood mitigation programme for the western region.
It's part of an overall plan to manage flooding in the Shannon catchment area.
The Office of Public Works is managing water levels on the Corrib, and water is being discharged out to sea through the city sluice gates
This action reduces water levels on the river itself, and the tributaries which flow into it.
OPW Minister and Galway East TD Sean Canney says while water levels in the Shannon have risen in recent weeks, they're still well below those experienced during the 2015/2016 flooding event.
All major waterways in the region are being monitored and managed in a bid to prevent future flood events.
